Quality & Condition

This Pre-Owned Vintage Slingerland Radio King 5x14 Snare Drum is in very good condition considering its age: The Black & Brass Chicago Oval Badge places the date of manufacture between 1956 - 1959. The only issue of note is the maple reinforcement rings show slight separation on the batter side, visible in the photos. This is a common issue to see in drums of this vintage, and the separation does not affect the sound or structural integrity of the drum.

All moving parts are functional, including the snare strainer & internal muffler. The shell is in-round and tunes up nicely. The original snare wires are not included, have been replaced with modern vintage-style wires. The nickel lugs, stick saver hoops, and other hardware show some slight wear and rusting due to age, but these are merely cosmetic imperfections. Modern drum heads are a little tight on this slightly oversized shell and thick pearloid wrap, so West Coast Drum Shop suggests using Remo Classic Fit drum heads on this drum, which use a thinner collar to allow more room for the drum shells made before the mid-1960s.
