This Used Ludwig Legacy Mahogany 6.5x14" Snare Drum in Aged Onyx is in very good condition, consigned to West Coast Drum Shop in late 2024 and lightly played since. The drum was not heavily used by the original owner, and it remains clean and well-cared for with only minor stick marks on the batter head. Known for legendary Ludwig craftsmanship, this Legacy Mahogany model is hand-built in Monroe, NC, using a 3-ply Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany shell with solid 1/4" maple reinforcement rings, resulting in a snare that’s both responsive and built to last.

Shell Construction & Historic Design

Ludwig's Legacy Mahogany series revives a classic 3-ply shell formula, originally introduced in 1923 and revered for its warmth, depth, and musical character. The shell comprises an outer and inner ply of 1/16" mahogany, a 1/8" American poplar core, and 1/4" thick solid maple reinforcement rings for stability and projection. The 30-degree bearing edge with a rounded 1/4" radius further enhances the drum’s rich, woody resonance and signature Ludwig tone.
