The Meinl 20" Byzance Traditional Polyphonic Crash combines a fast, explosive response with a dark tonal character, controlled sustain, and a powerful bell. Its versatile design allows it to function as a full-bodied crash while also providing clear articulation and an additional cutting voice from the unlathed bell.
Explosive Crash Response
The thin outer edge responds quickly with a broad, powerful burst of sound. After the initial attack, the cymbal settles into a quieter roar with a relatively short sustain, giving it plenty of impact without creating excessive buildup in the mix.
Dark and Complex Tone
Hand hammering and traditional wide-blade lathing create a rich blend of dark overtones and musical complexity. The 20" diameter provides a deep, full-bodied response that works well for large accents while retaining the sensitivity needed for more controlled playing.
Thicker Unlathed Bell
A thicker, unlathed bell gives the Polyphonic Crash a second distinct voice. Played on its own, the bell produces a penetrating attack with enough volume and definition for ride patterns, accents, and dynamic musical passages.
Hand-Hammered B20 Bronze
Made in Turkey from B20 bronze, each Byzance Traditional cymbal is hand hammered for an individual response and complex tonal character. The traditional finish and visible hammering give the cymbal a classic appearance that complements its expressive sound.
