About Oscar Seaton Jr.

Oscar Seaton Jr. is a Chicago-born drummer whose musical path began at just four years old, when banging on pots and pans in his mother’s kitchen sparked a lifelong calling behind the drums. Raised in a city known for its rich musical history, Oscar developed his creativity in the church before moving into the local Chicago music scene, where his pocket, timing, and groove quickly set him apart.

As his sound matured, Oscar earned the nickname “Seat Pocket”, a reflection of the deep feel, precision, and musical command that would become central to his identity as a drummer. His early professional experiences included touring with R&B legend Junior Walker, traveling the country and learning firsthand what it means to serve the music night after night.

Oscar’s relentless commitment to the craft helped shape him into one of the busiest session and live performance drummers in Los Angeles. Over the years, he has performed and recorded with an extraordinary list of legendary artists, including Lionel Richie, Terence Blanchard, Ramsey Lewis, Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Kirk Whalum, Phil Upchurch, Yolanda Adams, Brian Culbertson, Michael Manson, Boz Scaggs, Don Grusin, Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Mike Post, and many more.

His work has also been connected to major award-recognized projects, including an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score for Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, as well as Grammy nominated recordings with Terence Blanchard Featuring The E-Collective, including Absence and Breathless.
